Very to the point, taking a lot of the overexcitement out of the matter.
I would recommend this for anyone who doesn’t care how keto works as long as it works.
It’s what I would give when I don’t want to scare away people with the science talk.
Thanks for making it so easy.

The value of the simplicity and practicality of this book cannot be emphasized enough. I followed the plan exactly as written. I lowered my A1c from 10.1 to 5.4 and it only took 3 months. No medications.
The emphasis on simplicity and clarity is the winning combination. The book is easy to understand and easy to read. Especially in the case of a scary laboratory report – simple and effective is a powerful tool.
As an avid online scroller and video watcher, when it came to this situation – the book was invaluable as it served more as a “How To” guide. At this point, I own several books on the subject – but I am very grateful to have started with this one.

Pro: Clear and unambiguous info on keto. Simple guidelines. Written by a doctor whose specialty is obesity. Reliable, no hype.
Cons: No recipes. Since this was offered to me from a cookbook search, I was surprised.
A true ketogenic diet takes a lot of courage and the ability to say NO to many foods. It also requires a person to eat a lot of meat and fat, no fruit, no dairy, even low on veg. After reading this book I decided that keto may be a lifesaver for some people but I’m not one of those people. If you are wondering about it, this is a good place to start.

This book is a must for anyone new to low carb/ketogenic eating or feeling confused about how to do it. I found the book very easy to read, logical and finally a more simplistic way for becoming ‘Keto’.

I enjoyed this book because of the very calm and sensible way in which it presented the information. It gives basic guidelines, without being dogmatic about how each individual person should use the information to achieve their goals. If you are looking for a book which gives exact meal plans for the next 4 weeks, then you are going to be disappointed. If, however, you are looking for a book which gives you a framework and presumes you have the wit to manage making your own choices, then this could well be the book for you. Bon appetit.

End Your CARB confusion Breaks through all of the noise of confusing advice that exists on eating low carb. There is no lack of information out there on social media and the new keto market with low-carb “fake foods” but it’s so confusing to get through the myriads of anecdotes and self-proclaimed nutrition experts to get to the basics of what it actually means to eat low carb and how it can actually help you thrive. I tried low-carb a couple of times using random advice and ended up gaining weight and having constant sugar cravings until I found Dr. Eric Westman and Amy Berger Who lay it out on the table in simple and easy to understand terms. They have cut out all of the unnecessary “advice” that only confuses people and that isn’t meant for every person… Some of the low carb advocates on social media are basing their advice on their personal successes or anecdotes from people with different metabolisms and circumstances than what might be appropriate for everyone so be careful where you get your advice. Investigate it for yourself. I took the advice based on the information in this book and from the authors and have not only started shedding fat pounds and fitting into my preferred clothing, but most notably my moods have changed for the better and so has my outlook on life in general. I’m happier and more hopeful. I have less headaches and less depression And the sugar cravings have completely gone, which is something that has never happened in my life. I’m 53, menopausal, and when I started low-carb, very sedentary with a high sugar diet. Now I’m moving again because I feel better (after just 5 weeks) and continue to improve every week (it’s been 10 weeks since starting). You will learn a lot of useful information from this book and from these authors. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I read this book 9 months ago then went on vacation. Definitely had trouble staying with proper eating. Came home and started the carnivore diet. 90 days later we went back to this book. Hubs and I continued to lose weight and feel great! We met our goals and moved to Phase 2. Since then we survived the winter holidays with plenty of good food and a few cheats, gaining a couple of pounds. Quickly lost those once we got back home. Awaiting the next set of lab tests. This book is well-written and easy to understand. Dr. Westman explains everything clearly and let’s you know that reversing obesity and disease really is attainable. He has indeed made it clear and simple. Highly recommend. His YouTube channel is awesome too.

In the mountain of low-carb diet books, which I have been reading for the better part of ten years, this one stands out among the top three contemporary low-carb books (Protein Power and The Art and Science of Low Carb Living the other two). If you have tried and did not succeed in following a low-carb or ketogenic diet for health and weight loss, this is the book that will help you do it once and for all.
#1 take-away: Anyone can succeed with this diet for better health and lower weight. #2: Eat the best-quality food that you can afford, but remember that this plan is just normal food with most of the carbs (sugar, starches, etc.) lowered. #3 A low-carb diet is healthy and beneficial for anyone, regardless of their health status.
Dr. Westman’s A Low-Carb, Ketogenic Diet Manual (Phase 1 in this book) became known as the Page 4 Diet (which you can buy for $9.99 if you want, but I don’t know why you would). Here, along with that excellent plan are the two next phases, who can follow them, and who should avoid them. Readers will find easy-to-follow tools to follow the plan, with a comprehensive rationale for low-carb eating, especially for people who suffer with all kinds of metabolic illnesses and the other illnesses made worse by an ill metabolism. And the authors stress this is not a competition, or a “going up and going down” progression, cheating and cheat days, or other kinds of diet talk. You haven’t “failed” if you can tolerate no more than 20 g. of carbs per day, or whatever it might be. You simply eat at the level that works best for your metabolic health and keeping your weight where you want it.
If you already follow a low-carb diet and there are others in your life who would benefit but are skeptical, steer them to this book. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
