I’ve used it twice already and I messed it up the first time by not putting in enough water. I put one cup of white rice with the provided rice measuring cup and one cup of water in the same rice measuring cup. That did Not work! You need to put one cup of rice and fill the water completely to the 1 cup line inside the cooking pot. Then you’ll get some good rice. I also left the rice on warm for 15 minutes after the finish bell rings on the cooker. That did make the rice softer as according to the provided instructions. I also just put a couple of uncooked whole eggs in the steaming basket provided when I cooked the rice and the eggs at the same time and the eggs came out perfectly hard boiled. Customer service was very responsive because I couldn’t find out if the inner metal liner of the lid comes out or not? Indeed you can carefully pull out the metal inner lid liner it just kind of pops off and pops back on. Once you have cooked some rice there is a lot of condensation left under the inner metal lid liner so you need to pop that off and wipe off some of the condensation for sure. The first time I cooked rice even though I messed it up by not putting enough water in the pot there was a lot of condensation left under the inner metal lid liner that did not dry out even after 6 or 8 hours. The plastic circle in the middle of that inner metal lid liner will give way and let you pop it off and pop it back on and clean it. All in all a pretty good small rice cooker especially for one or two people and up to eight people. I’ve seen people using a metal spoon to stir the rice in the rice pot don’t do that please! Use the provided plastic scoop spoon. Also don’t rinse your rice first in warm or hot water that will cause the cooking process of the rice to begin. Always wash your rice first in cold water so the rice doesn’t start cooking then drain the water and put the rice in the cooking pot and then add new clean water and cook away. I found out as well that the little steam vent on the top of the rice cooker lid pops right out. You can push the steam vent when cooled off from the bottom or pull out from the top and it slides right out for cleaning and or to allow the moisture to dry out. The steam vent also collects moisture after cooking so pulling it out and letting it dry out works well.

I have been wanting a rice cooker for a while. I read the reviews on the Hamilton Beach and they were mostly all positive so I ordered one. Well, the first on I got was defective. I returned it and they sent out a replacement. The second one is fantastic. It cooks the rice and steams vegetables perfectly. Love that it is programmable and that is can cook 12 cups of rice at one time. Definitely comes in handy when I am cooking for a large crowd.

What intrigued me about the Hamilton Beach Digital Programmable Rice Cooker & Food Steamer is its versatility, especially the steaming feature. I love making one-pot meals and this device has made it soooo much easier to do so! Using the Grains option, I’ve made pots of lentils/barley/brown rice, rice and beans (with both the White Rice and Grains options), buckwheat/barley, quinoa, couscous, polenta. All that’s left to do is add extras (e.g., scrambled egg, shrimp, mixed veggies, cheese) to the cooked rice or grains for a quick and nutritious meal! I’ve yet to use the steamer basket but am planning to try steaming a bit of salmon and a few veggies this weekend while a batch of rice cooks below. The Hamilton Beach Digital Programmable Rice Cooker & Food Steamer is easy to use and a snap to clean: I spray a bit of olive oil in the non-stick pot before adding the rice/grains, herbs, broth and have ZERO residue to clean off the bottom of the pot! One of the best small kitchen appliances I’ve ever purchased and use it several times each week.

Once again Amazon is asking for a review long before I really get to experience the product I bought, however I am very impressed with it. It is very compact & takes up very little space in the kitchen & it is so versatile; it is capable of cooking even more variety of meals than I originally thought it capable of doing. I am excited to put it to use!
For one or two people, it is ideal since I don’t ever make more than 2-3 cups of rice at a time. It steams eggs soft, medium or hard boiled, it makes hot cereals like cream of wheat cereal, it steams veggies, meats, chicken & seafood too!
It truly is a mini wonder. 🙂

I was looking for a replacement for my old rice maker. I looked at quite a few, but am glad I got this one. It has 4 different settings, which by the way, I don’t need extra pots anymore and can get rid of clutter. It cooked the rice just as expected but it was faster than my old rice maker… Very simple to set, easy clean, compact for storage. I think is the best for the price.

It is amazing for rice and quinoa and boiled eggs. I have to admit I used it more boiling eggs than anything else. It worked great in all modes. Highly recommend for easy use.

This rice cooker works great for two people. Makes consistently good rice and is easy to clean. It replaced a no-longer-functioning Aroma cooker that I liked a lot but made more rice than I typically need (I can use my instant pot for more servings). I wasn’t sure about getting a smaller size since I’d also had an Aroma mini that was messy to use. This is a basic, affordable cooker if you don’t need bells and whistles and want to save space. I have only used it for brown and white rice so far but it does have hot cereal and steamer functions. It came with a steamer tray.
