UPDATED: The company was kind enough to send me a similar but different drone for our troubles. We really appreciate the attentive customer service. I will be sure to review the new drone over there. Like I said, we really like their drones (except when they fly away) and they’re customer service is great and responsive!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: We actually really like this drone, except for one MAJOR flaw, which I will get to in a minute. My son bought this to use for fun, he’s 12. Everyone in the family has played around with it now and then. It’s small, very responsive, and very easy to use. We love how the drone fits right in the controller, it keeps it safe.
We’ve actually owned two of these drones, one was a replacement that the company sent after our issue with the first one. Both the original and the replacement flew away, without warning and without any apparent reason. They had been working completely normally prior.
The first time it happened was about 2 weeks after he bought it, my son was flying it outside, in nice weather. He was flying it and suddenly ALL the controls stopped working and it FLEW AWAY AND DISAPPEARED! We live in a pretty rural area, so the drone flew up and over the woods and was completely gone. We had no way to go find it, although we assume it must have fallen at some point. My son was rightfully devastated since he spent his own money on it. The company was helpful and after many email exchanges they provided a replacement (although I had to ask for one).
The second time it happened was 2 years later with the replacement drone. We didn’t open the replacement box for over a year (because he was using his brother’s old drone), so the replacement was used for maybe 9 months before it flew away. Same conditions, same prior working fine. This time the company wouldn’t offer a replacement since it was outside the warranty, they offered 20% off a new one. We don’t plan to buy a new one, so the discount is useless.
So, we actually LOVE this little drone, but can’t recommend it since we’ve had 2 of them disappear. It’s kind of a waste of money… Maybe you won’t have the same problem or maybe they’ve fixed the problem in the past year.

This was an Xmas present for my daughters boyfriend.
He loved it, had it flying around inside straight away. Works well. Fairly easy to fly. Looks super cute with little LED lights.

This has been a great little drone for my 7 yr old grandson. He easily learned how to fly it and do the cool tricks. We love the small size and how it neatly folds & fits into the remote for storage. He’s had it for a few weeks now and uses it often, and it has been very durable. Great buy!

This mini drone from Holy Stone is very responsive and full of features. It is perfect, for kids, beginners, and anyone who just wants to have fun. I highly recommend it! It is also useful for practicing your flying skills, both indoors and outdoors. It does not take a relatively long time to charge (roughly 30 minutes) via USB or from the transmitter and gives you 5-8 minutes of flying time. It has several colored LEDs on the drone body and a bright white LED in the front, which look cool and also provide a method of tracking the drone and its orientation. It has three speeds from which to choose.
All of the features worked great from the start. The One Key Take-off and Landing functions performed well. The Altitude Hold function worked pretty good, but the performance was improved even more by using the Trimmers buttons (as described in the user manual). The High Speed Rotation and Flip Mode are fun to try and watch. The One Key Return worked as described in the manual, but you do need to be aware of the drones’ position relative to you and the transmitter. Headless Mode allows you to control the drone relative to the transmitter so you do not have to be concerned about keeping the head of the drone facing away from you. I actually was surprised at the quality of the instruction manual and would recommend taking 5-10 minutes going through it before flying the drone. It will save you time and make the whole experience even more enjoyable (especially if you are a beginner or novice).
The HS190 has been resilient and sturdy so far. We have run into several items and crashed at least a few times with no ill effects (the propeller guards were attached). Since the drone arms do fold, make sure you check and put them back in place after a crash.
As for drawbacks of this drone, it’s difficult to find any considering the functions and the price. It does take a little time to become acquainted with all the little buttons on the transmitter/controller. It would be nice if they were labeled, but that probably would not be practical for a drone of this size and price point. The manual says to be careful of over-charging the battery and recommends unplugging the charging cable once the battery is fully charged (LED on cable turns off when completed). We did not notice this in the manual at first and charged it for a much greater time. Fortunately, there were no problems afterward, but it is something to keep in mind.
Overall, this has been a fantastic little drone thus far. I have not required any support from Holy Stone for this HS190, but response to inquiries and questions about their other products has been exceptional. Their customer support is top notch and you will see that throughout other reviews as well.
