The only RAM supported is DDR5, and unless it is clocked down RAM is not stable. No faster than an i9-14900K at 4 times the price with a necessary compatible motherboard. The Z890 chipset does run a little cooler than the Z 790.

This 15th generation processor is great for production tasking and teamed with the right memory and bios settings can be great for gaming as well.
I build systems and while this cpu may not be quite as fast as a 14900k 5.7ghz vs 6.0ghz, in some tasks, it is clearly faster in others. The ultra-9 285k processor is definitely less power hungry and because of this it requires less ultra high end cooling solutions.
I think the new chiplet architecture will lend itself to greater future innovations and the future is very bright for this cpu!!
A great reset for Intel..!

Box was tightly packed so chip would not move during shipping!! Thank you!!

The reviews on this CPU are so biased, its actually really frustrating.
It is definitely a disappointment for gaming as of November 26, 2024.
But anyone into productivity, content creation, photo editing, etc the cpu is incredible.
I built a 9950x a few months ago because after the bios updates with the 14900k, that cpu tanked in performance for what I use and needed it for and the 9950x was a great CPU while I was using that, but I built the 285k PC for what I literally do for a living and decided to keep this PC and sell the 9950x PC because it is far better, everything feels smoother, the asus z890 xmp profile with 4 sticks feels better & overall I have no idea why “GAMING” is the only thing seem to care about with the CPU and base there reviews off of that.
AMD for this generation is better for gaming absolutely, but not everybody cares about getting 30 more fps when we are already getting over 200.
I recommend this cpu & I havenet even updated the bios with the motherboard yet.

Upgraded from an i7 Ultra to this i9 Ultra, and what a nice surprise. While many reviews focus on how fast rendering goes with this chip (which I can understand) and other CPU-intensive tasks it compiles, my choice to upgrade was to experience for myself an i9 machine. I am a writer by profession and can see the difference in how fast items I need load, and they load quickly with almost zero lag. It is just a great experience to drive Intel’s best finally. The CPU is air-cooled (Noctua s15), and has zero heating issues in an SFF case.

Attention Creators/ Workstation users: I recommend this processor over the Intel’s I9 family for workstations. I needed a creator/ workstation professional grade computer and this processor fit the bill when deciding which one to use. Some of the negative comments on this process usually came from hardcore gamers. Us creator/ workstation gurus are not that fickle. The processing power is top tier as should be when overclocking. The Asus ProArt motherboard purchased along with was an excellent match. This PC build benchmarked at around 99th percentile which is top of the line in my book. The makes the most power pc I have built to date.
Read the reviews you see about this carefully, but take them with a grain of salt. If this processor meets or exceeds your needs, then that’s all that matters. I could care less about which audience Intel’s pitch line was intended for.
So, with that said, ignore the BS on here, online and especially yt, and purchase this processor with a clear conscience knowing this will be class A performer.

Has run great and super easy installation

I am a programmer who works with compiled programming languages in a large codebase all day long, and I bought this processor after seeing it at or near the top of many compiler benchmarks. Indeed, this processor cuts through my work like a knife through hot butter, and it is a joy to watch it speed through tasks! And unlike previous generations of Intel processors, it is quite easy to keep it cool even with cheap air coolers. Despite minor overclocking, the processor stays 10-20 °C away from thermal throttling even under hours of the most intense stress tests (like Cinebench). Furthermore, the processor has been quite stable for me, as I have not encountered any crashes.
Keep in mind that many of the mixed/negative reviews are focused on gaming, where the gaming performance for the price is quite disappointing. If Intel manages to iron out all of the major issues (a very big if), this processor will exhibit gaming performance similar to an i9-14900K while being significantly-more power efficient. Accordingly, this could be a strong mixed gaming/productivity processor in the future, but in the meantime, I would not buy this processor if having top-tier gaming performance is important to you. For productivity-focused users like me, however, I would highly recommend this processor for many productivity tasks, where it is often the fastest consumer-grade processor ever made.

Let see … I ‘m not some slack-jawed mouth breather living in his mother’s basement who’s only metric for pc performance is fps and desperately needs affirmation for his brilliant, “unbiased” selection of Team Red. Nor do I crave a pc with a light show that looks like clown vomit. Rather, I am just a guy who appreciates a quality product with excellent throughput and snappiness. The Intel Core Ultra 9 285k checks all of the boxes for me.
If you want a more technical understanding of Intel’s technical prowess and how they are preparing for the Ångstrom era check out ‘Anastasi in Tech’ on YouTube, find her video entitled ‘New Disruptive Microchip Technology and The Secret Plan of Intel’, and then start watching at the 9:56 mark. Intel is doing far more than simply chasing fps.
*Very* satisfied with the Intel Core Ultra 9 285k purchase and build.

Una completa joya, me corre increíblemente bien, solo que les recomiendo tener una buena gráfica para que no les haga cuello de botella pero de ahí en fuera increíble la potencia de este procesador
